The 49th annual Earth Day will be held on April 22nd.
We all strive to be good stewards of the environment. Everyone knows the damage that an oil spill or forest fire causes. But what what about the IT industry? What can we do to help celebrate Earth Day?
First of all, we can start small. It seems that every time we try and go paperless, we just end up generating more printouts. So how about recycling that paper? For sensitive documents that need to be shred, most commerical shredding services will recycle the shredded paper for you.
Batteries are another small step we can take. here in the Indianapolis area, used batteries can be dropped off at all IMCPL locations.
Old cell phones can be recycled through several different charities. Some cell phone providers will even provide postage paid shipping bags so you can send in your old phone for recycling.
Finally, when updating equipment- consider recycling it. There are several companies that recycle computer equipment, and most will certify that all the data on the machines was destroyed. n|Frame will even work with clients to get the equipment recycled.
So as we approach Earth Day, just take a moment to consider some of the small steps we can all take to make this a better planet.
